Local history explorers

This summer, our Kingsmount-Bell Park heritage walks have turned a few corners and burned a few calories while celebrating our built heritage and families that have left their mark. If you’d like to learn more about our walks, subscribe to our website to receive notifications.

Dr. William and Florence Howey arrived on July 1, 1883, and after selling their Idylwylde, built their final residence on present-day Howey Drive.

William and Katherine Bell built their home overlooking Lake Ramsey in 1907, and later gifted Bell Park to the citizens of Sudbury.

Ralph Parker built the Spanish colonial home for his new bride, Mina Bane, before becoming INCO’s Superintendent of Mines.

Memories of the Sudbury General Hospital. The hospital built to deliver the baby boom is being taken down to accommodate the increasing retirement living needs of the same.

  1. Paul- Just a thought. Those historical pictures are great. Is there any way to put a selection of them on a backing of some kind like Bristol board and add them to our display at the market? I could haul them back and forth with the banner in my car. Would make a good talking point. Talked to two ladies on my walk this morning who wanted more information about the historical walks and told them to check on the website and at the market. They both live on Kingsmount. Pat

    1. Good idea, Pat. Maybe a strategy we can budget for next year. I believe we have half a dozen market dates left. We should all get together to discuss if and how we can best use the market opportunity next year.
