Our Kingsmount-Bell Park CAN heritage walk took us from the former Sudbury General Hospital to the St Nicholas Greenspace and the “Mountain” overlooking Ramsey Lake.

The sisters of St. Joseph secured the property of F. M. Stafford adjoining Bell Park in July, 1944. The new hospital which opened in October, 1950, was the first in Ontario to have its application approved for assistance under the Federal Government’s Hospital Building Programme.

Regreening initiatives over the last 40 years have transformed the once rocky terrain into urban forest.

Count Nicholas Julien Frederic Romanet du Caillaud from Limoges France is often a topic of conversation on our heritage walks. He owned most of the property on the north shore of Ramsey as far as the eye can see.
